Rebekah Luff becomes Centre for Care’s new Advisory Board Chair

Congratulations to our National Programme Manager, Dr Rebekah Luff, the newly appointed Advisory Board Chair for Centre for Care!

Centre for Care is an ESRC funded research centre across 5 universities which also has co-investigators from three major charities – Carers UK, National Children’s Bureau, Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), as well as the Office for National Statistics. It produces crucial new research to support understandings of care.

Rebekah shares more about her new role as Chair:

“Prior to joining My Home Life England, I was one of the co-investigators for Centre for Care on behalf of SCIE. In this role I predominantly supported the Centre’s impact strategy and co-production activities.

I confess I was feeling rather sad at having to step away from my role within the Centre when I moved from SCIE to take up my new role as National Programme Manager at My Home Life England in May 2025. I was delighted when the opportunity arose to take on a new and exciting role as Advisory Board Chair, a role that is an excellent fit with the work and ethos of My Home Life.”

What impact does Centre for Care have?

“The reason I have wanted to continue to work with the Centre is their focus on making a difference. Moreover, they have worked hard on their co-production activities within the Centre itself, and the interlinked research projects that make up the Centre. Now that the Centre is at the stage where a great deal of research and engagement activities have been undertaken, you can see the real-world impact of that work.

For me, a particular highlight has been the Unpaid Care Dashboard. The dashboard allows people to explore the Census data relating to unpaid carers in a local area, and create charts, graphs and reports, as well as make comparisons to other places. This is a brilliant tool that will help local areas to access and understand relevant data, and use it for insight-driven decision making.

This is just one example of how research at the Centre can be used by those working in and influencing the sector to make a difference to people’s lives.

I look forward to my role as Advisory Board Chair to shape the important work of the Centre, and to continue to be excited by, and engaged in, the range of research projects and engagement in policy, insights, and practice.”

Congratulations Rebekah!
