Chris Lehmann joins our Development Board
We’re thrilled to welcome Chris Lehmann to our Development Board!
Chris Lehmann is Director of Adult Social Care Strategy and Commissioning at Camden Council, and brings a strong commitment to human rights, equity and social justice to their role.
At Camden, Chris is responsible for care services directly run by council staff, as well as the quality, sustainability, and oversight of commissioned providers within the remit of the local authority. Chris leads with compassion and collaboration — empowering colleagues, stakeholders, and people drawing on care and support to work together, flatten hierarchies, and focus on quality through relational commissioning.
Beyond their leadership role in Camden, Chris chairs the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) Research Group and sponsors several communities of practice in Camden, including Co-production, Research, and Ethics. Chris is also pursuing a PhD at Birkbeck, University of London as an UBEL scholar, exploring the importance of chosen families for ageing and elder LGBTQ+ people and how communities can be better supported to challenge bias, redesign services, and influence legal frameworks.
We caught up with Chris about their passion and vision for social care:
“My professional, academic, and personal interests are rooted in a belief that care should reflect dignity, equality, and justice. In Camden, I work to ensure that services are sustainable, and shaped by the voices of those who use them. Relational commissioning is about building trust and shared purpose—because quality care starts with strong relationships.”
What motivated you to join our Board?
“I’ve long admired My Home Life England’s commitment to celebrating care in its most human form. My Home Life England doesn’t just talk about policy — it amplifies stories, relationships, and the lived experience of care. That perspective is vital at a time when the sector faces immense challenges.”
What do you hope to achieve?
“I want to help strengthen MHLE’s voice in championing equity and inclusion, particularly for the care workforce. Parity of esteem for care staff is essential, *they deserve the same recognition and opportunities as social work and health professionals. Through this role, I hope to support initiatives that enable leadership and progression within the workforce, and to connect research with practice so that care is informed by evidence and shaped by those who deliver and receive it.”
We’re very excited to welcome Chris and work together for a better future for social care.
