Care Homes

How often do you meet with people who work in other care homes – to discuss your work, support each other and share your good practice?

The role of a care home is not always an easy one, but lots of staff we’ve spoken to have found sharing your experiences with people from other homes can help you to feel that you’re not alone and others are having the same challenges. In the past there has been too little sharing of good practice in the care home sector – something you can easily change.

Here are a few ways you can start to get in touch with other care homes:

  • Sign up to our practice update emails – real stories and top tips from real staff working in care homes across the country
  • Does your Local Authority have a providers meeting or something similar? Ask to go along (or getting around to saying ‘yes’) and get chatting!
  • Managers – think about setting up your own group for other local care home managers. Sound daunting? Read Susan’s story of how she set up a managers’ forum – and her top tips from the experience!
  • Activity coordinators – there’s an online forum run by Alive! where you can share your ideas and hear what others are doing.
