Sometimes people ask me what does My Home Life actually do? In a nutshell, My Home Life is a social movement that is actually making a difference in supporting quality of life for those living, dying, visiting and working in care homes for older people.
We engage in a range of different types of activity from supporting leadership for care home managers to working with UK governments to influence their processes and policies; From creating materials for staff to help them reflect to supporting local authorities, health and the local community to help care homes to deliver improvement.
Most importantly our work is evidence-based in terms of what we know older people want from care homes and also what good practice looks like in care homes. It is also about working in partnership with care homes, acknowledging their challenges, celebrating their good practice and taking forward real improvement together.
Care homes are likely to increase in the future given the demographic change. As a society, we need to nurture and support them to develop so that become valued and cherished assets to our local communities. My Home Life are a small but growing movement that firmly believe that care homes can be a positive option for our frailest citizens. We hope you can join us in our mission.
